Explanations for the Precise Ranking Method Used in Fantasy Baseball

Batters - For the six fielding positions (C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF), players are listed by their position rank. This is determined by applying the ranking algorithm to all position players.

To calculate points for each of the 5 batting categories, these formulas are used:

• HR Points = Home Runs / MLB Home Runs x 100,000
• RBI Points = RBI's / MLB RBI's x 100,000
• Runs Scored Points = Runs Scored / MLB Runs Scored x 100,000
• Stolen Base Points = Stolen Bases / MLB Stolen Bases x 100,000
• BA Points = (1+(10 x (BA - 0.280))) x RawBA x (AtBats / 450) where RawBA = 2 x Hits x (100,000 / MLB Hits) - AtBats x (100,000 / MLB Total At Bats)

The Batting Average formula weighs the Raw Batting Average points so that a player who bats .300 with 600 plate appearances will receive significantly more points than a player who bats .300 with only 9 plate appearances. The report lists each player's stats, points for each stat category, total points, and overall rank.

Pitchers - For starting and relief pitchers, the pitchers are listed by their position rank which has been determined by applying the ranking algorithm to all pitchers.

To calculate points for each of the 5 pitching categories, these formulas are used:

• Wins Points = Wins / MLB Wins x 100,000
• Saves Points = Saves / MLB Saves x 100,000
• Strike Outs Points = Strike Outs / MLB Strike Outs x 100,000
• ERA Points = (1 / ER ) x (IP / Avg IP) x 15,000
• WHIP Points = (1 / (((WHIP - 1) x 10) + 1)) x (IP / Avg IP) x 500 Avg IP = MLB IP / # of pitchers

If a player's WHIP is less than 1, then WHIP = 1 is used to calculate his WHIP points. The report lists each player's stats, points for each stat category, total points, and overall rank.
